Google Cloud joins Tezos blockchain to develop Web3 tech

On the Tezos blockchain, corporate clients who use Google Cloud will be able to build web3 applications.

Like Ethereum, Cardano, and others, Tezos is a blockchain-based smart contract platform that is utilized to power decentralized apps. The gaming giant Ubisoft and the California Department of Motor Vehicles have both utilized Tezos.

After announcing a collaboration with the Tezos Foundation, Google Cloud accelerated its web3 strategy. The cloud computing service will now be added to the validator network of the Tezos blockchain.

The announcement says that Google Cloud will give up all of the transaction fees it could get. Through the partnership, Google Cloud’s corporate clients can build web3 apps on the Tezos blockchain.

In November, the firm announced an accelerator program and made its partnership with Aptos Labs even stronger. On Aptos, the company is also a node validator.

In October, Google Cloud announced its own blockchain node hosting service. Ethereum Network will be the first blockchain supported by the company’s Blockchain Node Engine.

Additionally, the company operates a web3 accelerator with the Layer 1 blockchain NEAR Protocol, which was announced in early October of last year. Google Cloud’s responsibilities include providing technical support to NEAR recipients.

Google Cloud’s latest announcement also comes just as its competitor Amazon Web Services is ramping up its web3 infrastructure support.

James Tromans, Web3 engineering director at Google Cloud, said in a statement to Fortune regarding the company’s strategy in light of the evolution of blockchain and decentralized technologies, “Google Cloud views the evolution of blockchain technology and decentralized networks today as analogous to the rise of open source technologies that led to the internet 10 to 15 years ago.”

The announcement said: “The Tezos Foundation will provide new and existing Google Cloud customers access to its corporate baking program. Through the program, Tezos will offer Google Cloud customers that are interested in building Web3 applications, easy deployment of nodes and indexers on the Tezos protocol.”
