WorldWide Webb Founder: NFT games aren’t just about Minting

Image
After profile photos, NFT developers expanded into the gaming industry with limited success in integrating into gamer culture. On the other hand, Thomas Webb, founder of WorldWide Webb, believes that sentiment is moving. At this year’s NFT Paris , Webb stated, “the real challenge for us is going to be showing gamers that NFT games aren’t just about minting and staking and yield farming; actually, they’re about competing, collaborating, taking on challenges and earning from that.” It is not difficult to determine how the gaming community feels about the inclusion of jpegs. When GSC Game World announced that NFTs would be added to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, many criticized the developer for jumping on a trend. The Ukrainian developers ultimately halted the launch, informing supporters, “based on the feedback we received we’ve made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related.” Ubisoft suffered a similar backlash in 2021 after deciding to implement in-game NFTs on the Quartz Tezos-based platfor

Second Ethereum Testnet performs Shanghai Hard Fork with success

Image
On the Sepolia testnet, it was possible to withdraw ETH that had been staked. There will be one more test on the Goerli testnet before Shanghai goes live. Today, successful withdrawals of staked ether (ETH) were made on a second Ethereum test network (testnet) called Sepolia. This brings the Ethereum blockchain closer to the much-anticipated Shanghai Upgrade. Upgrade began at epoch 56832 at 4:04 UTC and was finished at 4:17 UTC (11:17 p.m. ET). The Shanghai Upgrade will finish Ethereum’s move to a fully functional proof-of-stake network, letting validators cash out rewards they’ve earned by adding or approving blocks on the blockchain. One more test is set to happen on Ethereum’s Goerli testnet before Shanghai goes live. The goal of the test on Sepolia was to give developers another chance to practice withdrawals like the ones that will happen on the main Ethereum blockchain. Testnets are copies of the main blockchain, in this case, Ethereum, that let developers test changes to

NFT Royalties Are ‘Not Going Away on SuperRare’: Co-Founder Jon Perkins

Image
Jonathan Perkins, the founder of SuperRare, says that the NFT space is a lot bigger than just the recent Blur vs. OpenSea controversy . Creator royalties, or the lack of them, on NFT marketplaces have become the most talked-about topic in the niche recently. But SuperRare decided to pay creators five years ago. Jonathan Perkins, the co-founder and CTO of the project, said that when SuperRare came out in 2018, the royalty part would be a “standard.” “We took a fairly controversial move at the time to include artist royalties. What we said is that if we can help artists make any money through royalties, why not try at least? So we played some part in establishing some kind of a standard, at least for the art side,” told Decrypt during the NFT Paris conference. “Royalties are not going away on SuperRare.” Creator royalties are fees that can be up to 10% of an NFT sale and are given to the person who made the NFT. These fees can be a big source of income for projects with a lot of t

Playboy is expected to introduce MetaMansion virtual world this year

Image
Users without a Rabbitar will be able to get into the MetaMansion, but they won’t be able to go to all of the “cool places” in the virtual world. The Playboy MetaMansion will soon appear. Liz Suman, the Web3 lead for Playboy, told Decrypt at NFT Paris last week that the virtual world is scheduled to launch this year and that there will be methods for users who are not part of the magazine brand’s Rabbitar community to access it. “It’s been the plan all along for the Rabbitars to be the VIPs of the MetaMansion experience,” Suman, who is VP for art, editorial, and Web3 at the 70-year-old media brand, said in an interview. “That is still very much the case, while also opening it up in this way that’s integrating The Sandbox’s community, maybe onboarding other people who are interested in web3 […] and making a space that is a place for everyone.” The partnership between The Sandbox and Animoca Brands was announced last summer. However, further information has been kept under wraps t

South Korea’s Lotte Group collaborates with Polygon on global NFT development

Image
Lotte Group, South Korea’s fifth-largest company with holdings in manufacturing, hotels, and e-commerce, plans to expand its non-fungible token (NFT) business global through a cooperation with the Polygon blockchain. Daehong Communications, Lotte’s marketing and NFT hub, stated this on Monday. BellyGom NFTs, or Lotte Homeshopping’s profile picture (PFP) digital collection centered on the same-named pink bear figure, will be promoted as the partnership’s debut initiative. BellyGom NFT holders benefit Holders of BellyGom NFTs, which were first issued on the Klaytn network in August 2022, obtain benefits related to Lotte’s goods and services, such as hotel discounts or retail coupons. The new line will be called as “BellyGom NFT Season 2,” according to a press release from Daehong. The company is currently working on the idea, according to a Daehong spokesman, and no release date for the collection has been determined. A Polygon official said that “Polygon and Daehong are [now] tech

NFT Paris can also provide much-needed refuge: Doodles CEO

Image
Julian Holguin, CEO of Doodles, says that events like NFT Paris can help the industry recover from what happened last year. At one point, people on crypto Twitter would often use the acronym WAGMI, which stands for “we’re all going to make it,” to show that they were optimistic about different projects. Julian Holguin, CEO of Doodles, concurred with other Web3 figures that WAGMI is dead, when he told Decrypt that numerous initiatives are currently facing headwinds. “I think a lot of people are certainly feeling pain,” he said. “The unfortunate reality is that most projects that started are not going to be able to make it through these times.” Holguin noted that the competition between NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea and Blur has resulted in creator royalties taking a backseat, potentially limiting the available funds for certain projects. “We definitely feel for a lot of the projects that were relying on secondary royalty revenue and things like that, but I think brighter day

Adidas will ‘Scope Out’ token-gated sneaker drops

Image
The Web3 lead at Adidas hinted that there are more creative ways to use crypto than just adding a payment option. Instead, it’s about being a part of a community. Adidas’s plans for Web3 could soon include a cryptocurrency. But just adding a payments plugin won’t be enough. “We’ve talked about it, but I don’t know if that’s really solving a problem,” Adidas’ Web3 lead Erika Wykes-Sneyd told Decrypt today at NFT Paris . She added that it is not “an expensive proposition,” particularly considering that there are no clear barriers to purchasing sneakers and clothing with fiat currencies. Instead, the sports and fashion brand would likely rely on its early crypto experiences, fostering communities and conducting exclusive digital drops. Adidas bought a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT in December 2021. In the same month, it gave out 30,000 of its own NFTs. The sportswear giant made $23.4 million from the first “Into the Metaverse” drop in just one afternoon. “There are interesting p

Borrowing Against a Bored Ape NFT—What Goes Wrong?

Image
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are getting a major facelift. Robness V2 tweeted earlier this week, “Life was a whole lot better when you bought a jpeg, enjoyed the jpeg, and didn’t expect anything to come with it.” It is a comment on NFTs as just pieces of art; pet-rock mediocrity. On the blockchain, they were to be admired in all their pixelated magnificence. Perhaps, they were occasionally traded, with owners marking the end of an era when ownership changed hands. But that was it: crypto art with no extras. Nonetheless, startup after startup is releasing a plethora of extras, granting NFTs access to Discord channels, fractionalizing them, rehypothecating them, and increasing leverage. The list is exhaustive. In tandem with the growing use of NFTs, a new specialization involving the application of diverse DeFi technologies to drawings of monkeys and penguins is emerging. It is called NFTFI, and it expects that these tokens will evolve into the much-touted “money legos” that can

Whale sells 1,010 NFTs in 48 hours in ‘largest NFT dump ever’

Image
Andrew Thurman of Nansen theorized that this massive NFT drop is an effort to obtain further BLUR token rewards while also making profits, as the Blur marketplace is scheduled to receive a second airdrop. Nonfungible token (NFT) whale Jeffrey Hwang, better known as Machi Big Brother, sold 1,010 tokens in 48 hours for a total of 11,680 Ether, or $18.6 million, according to Nansen data. Andrew Thurman, Simian Psychometric Enhancement Technician at Nansen, noted the trading activity of the preceding two days in a February 25 tweet thread. According to him, this is “possibly the largest NFT leak ever.” In addition to 308 Otherdeed NFTs, 191 Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs, and 90 Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs, the primary selling event featured these and other NFTs. In what's likely the largest NFT dump ever, in the past 48 hours Machi has sold 1,010 NFTs, including: – 90 BAYC for 5707 ETH – 191 MAYC for 3091 ETH – 112 Azuki for 1644 ETH – 308 Otherdeed for 582 ETH

Winning key on Yuga Labs Dookey Dash receives $1.1M bid on OpenSea

Image
A group of NFT fans has put a whopping $1.1 million bid on the winning key from the endless runner game Dookey Dash by Yuga Labs . They want to get their hands on the key so they can win the game. The current owner of the key, 18-year-old Fortnite streamer Kyle “ Mongraal ” Jackson, has not yet accepted the winning bid from the group UpDAO. Mongraal put his most valuable NFT on the market for 2,222 ETH, which is about $3.5 million. UpDAO is linked to Pixel Vault’s upcoming Web3 game, Inhabitants Universe, which will use NFT characters. It has put in a bid of 690 WETH, which stands for “wrapped ether” (which can then be converted to ETH or another equivalent asset). A DAO is a group of people who get together online, put money in a shared wallet, and vote on how to spend that money. UpDAO has a community fund with about $24.4 million in it, so this bid is about 5% of its total assets. BREAKING NEWS: #UPDAO MAKES A 690 ETH BID ON THE GOLDEN KEY!!! @Mongraal , THE BALL IS IN YO

Liquidators will sell ‘Certain’ NFTs from bankrupt Three Arrows Capital

Image
Three Arrows Capital (3AC) will sell its non-fungible tokens (NFTs), but according to the fund’s liquidator, the auction would exclude the fund’s most valuable assets. According to a new communication, the Joint Liquidators intend to begin selling select NFTs. The most recent information from the liquidators is that they will begin selling some of their NFTs within the next month, or no later than March 23. Christopher Farmer, a senior managing director at the advising firm Teneo and a co-liquidator in the 3AC case, wrote, “The purpose of the Sale is to realize the value of the NFTs for the purposes of the liquidation.” But, the so-called Starry Night Capital fund will not be involved. This is a collection of assets collected by Vincent Van Dough, an anonymous collector, for 3AC’s Starry Night Capital. When Starry Night Capital was first unveiled in August 2021, 3AC described it as a new fund for “assembling the best collection of NFTs in the world.” What will the Starry Night N

Polygonscan crashed, raising rumors blockchain will go down

Image
Many believed the Polygon blockchain was temporarily down due to an issue with the network explorer Polygonscan. It simply wasn’t the case. Scaling Methods for Layer 2 PolygonScan data indicated that the blockchain has not processed a block in over an hour and a half, fueling speculation that the service was down for maintenance. Since then, the Polygon team has explained the disruption in blockchain output as the result of “a few nodes” falling out of sync. “About 8:26 UTC , a few nodes went out of sync. This caused a reaction where some nodes could not validate blocks for a very brief period of time,” the information provided by Polygon. “Block production never stopped – However, there could have been a degradation in network performance temporarily. These nodes have resynced and systems are back to normal.” As for Polygonscan, the crew is aware of its outage but has alternative explorers at their disposal. We are collaborating with polygonscan to restore their services, the s

Mondoir’s first art gallery in Dubai

Image
Amir Soleymani (@Mondoir) is an OG collector and one of the first NFT art supporters. He has excellent experience in the field of physical art and has done many activities related to digital art, such as NFT Liverpool, which is very significant in the NFT area. NFT Liverpool 2022 was an event created, managed, and defined by Mondoir. It was an exhibition unlike any other at that time, with a focus on NFT art and a new definition for curators in the digital art scene. The main goals of this exhibition were to give NFT artists more exposure, give web2 people a chance to see what digital art is like, and give curators a way to assist artists with whom they connect. One of the coolest things about this event was the exquisite line-up of curators, such as Deekay, Paris Hilton, Farokh, and Keith Grossman (CEO of MoonPay and former CEO of Time Magazine). Thank you @mondoir for asking me to curate #NFTLiverpool . So honored to be a part of this to uplift & empower all these brill
